Colours is an extra long staple Egyptian cotton, 30/3 ply, available in 10 variegated colors, 400 yard spools. Although it is listed as the same thickness as Jean Stitch, it is a tighter ply, making it a little thinner than Jean Stitch thread. Colours thread is perfect for quilting, even though it is a little heavier than most quilt threads. Embroidery and other stitchery work with this thread. Beautiful motifs can be made crocheting or knitting with Colours thread. A motif made with Colours, using the same size needles or crochet hook and pattern, will be approximately 1/3rd smaller than one made of Jean Stitch thread. Colours are more muted while Jean Stitch is much brighter. Colours make beautiful little braids when several strands of the same variegated thread color are combined together. Colours can be used as a fancy edging stitch attached to a piece made of thicker thread. Colours thread has the consistency that would work for tatting, even though it is thicker than most tatting threads. I have crocheted little sample motifs with and without beads, ropes with transparent 11/0 beads and the Colours reflect through the beads. Size 15/0 beads can be crocheted or knitted, however, on ropes the thread tends to bulk up due to the beads being so much smaller. Transparent beads will enhance the thread. The Colours cotton thread is too thin to crochet with larger beads such as 6/0 and 8/0 beads. The bead weight will stretch and wear the fiber. Doily Samples
