A Bead Crochet Amulet Bag

The Marrakech Bag kit is a miniature bag pattern based on bag designs most popular from 1850's through early 1900's. I created this pattern; it is an original, not a copy of a pattern. Cataloging antique purses for museums has inspired me to create new purse designs with an Old World flavor. This purse measures approximately 5" (12.5cm) long including fringe. Many of the old purses were about 10" (25cm) long and 6" (15cm) wide. Larger purses were unusual and very few were created. Some of the small purses were called finger purses. A ring extended from these bags for one to put their finger through and let the purse hang while attending fancy galas and socials. This was very “in” back then. Your kit instruction booklet includes an option for adding these rings.

The Marrakech Bag is crocheted with bead chains in the purse body and bead loops as embellishment. You can make a short bag strap for the bag to attach onto the Tangier Rope or attach the bag directly to a Moroccan Braid. A decorative miniature scrunchie is included for the short bag strap. A purse liner pattern is provided for attachment to the bag. The bag can be made with or without the liner added.

I want this to be an enjoyable experience. I want you to enjoy bead crochet and be ready to start the next project. So, I have gone to great lengths to make sure that you have everything you need in this kit, that the design is easy and that the instructions are clear and easy to understand. The instructions have been tested with both experienced and novice bead crocheters. Their inputs were very valuable and were incorporated into the final version of the instructions.

Marrakech Bag Instruction Booklet

This is a Beadwrangler Kit. Unlike other kits you may have seen, a Beadwrangler Kit comes with a fully illustrated booklet with complete instructions for options and finishing as well as complete instructions and patterns for additional projects.

The kit instruction booklet includes instructions for the Marrakech bag and strap, bag liner, earrings, scrunchie and a Tangier Rope or a Moroccan Braid, 26”-28” length. I always offer many projects in my kit instruction booklets. You can purchase additional beads and fiber to make more items.

To make this project, you need to know how to chain stitch, single crochet, double crochet, half double crochet, slip stitch and increase these stitches. Instructions for all of these stitches are included in your kit instruction booklet and the Kit Supplement that also includes a rope primer.
