These framed bags are very easy to make.  The Java, Jakarta, Singapore and Sumatra models begin with adding the frame and then crocheting from the top to the bottom.  The Bali model is made by crocheting the bag and liner and then adding them to the frame.  See the Information Pages for each model for more details.

Bali Bag
A bead crochet framed bag in the
Pacific Rim Collection

The Bali Bag is a miniature version of beaded bags that were popular in the 1930's through early 1950's.  Cataloging antique purses for museums inspired me to create this design.

The Bali Bag is 2 1/4" x 2 1/4" and has inside dimensions of 1 5/8" across by 1 1/4" deep.  It will accommodate a few coins or a small amulet.  The kit includes beads and thread for the bag and a liner, as well as the metal frame and chain.  Your completed Bali Bag makes the perfect gift! Daughters and granddaughters, mama and grandma, as well as friends will love this precious little bag.  Bali Bags can also be displayed as ornaments.

To make your Bali Bag you need to know how to chain stitch, single crochet, double crochet, half double crochet, slip stitch and increase sc stitches.  If you do not know how to crochet with beads, you can order my Learn Bead Crochet from Scratch! Workshop.  Thousands of people have learned bead crochet with my "Scratch! Workshop" which starts you out with thick thread and no beads and leads you through a series of lessons using thick, medium and thin thread with and without beads.  Check out the Scratch! Workshop info page for more information.

The Bali Bag Kit can be ordered in any of the 100 Beadwrangler Seed Bead Mix colors or in any of the 340 seed bead colors.

The kit includes 50 grams of seed beads, a spool of Jean Stitch thread, twisted wire needles for stringing beads onto your crochet thread, a metal frame and metal chain.  The 16 page instruction booklet is fully illustrated with bead crochet tips and techniques, the Bali Bag instructions, bag liner instructions and instructions for attaching the Bali Bag and liner to the frame.

The instruction booklet includes complete instructions and crochet rounds for a 3-color Bali Bag using three harmonious seed bead colors, plus other future projects including a fabric liner, crocheted motifs and larger bags.

If you do not already crochet with beads, you will need to order a steel crochet hook.  Size 9/1.40mm for medium crochet, size 7/1.65mm if you crochet tight or size 11/1.10mm if you crochet loose.

Java Bag
A bead crochet framed bag in the
Pacific Rim Collection

The Java Bag is my version of the Swag Stitch bags that were popular in the mid-1800's and early 1900's.  Cataloging antique purses for museums inspired me to create this design.  Before metal frames were available, these bag shapes were made with a drawstring as a closure.

The Java Bag is 2 ½" x 5 ½" and has inside dimensions of 2" across by 5" deep.  It will hold a cell phone or ipod that fits the bag dimensions.  The Java Bag has a little more weight to it in comparison to the Jakarta Bag because the swag body section is made entirely of bead loops and the Jakarta swag body section is made of a bead loop and single bead combination.  For this reason the Java is a stronger bag than the Jakarta, and you can also use the bag for evening to hold a few items; credit cards, kleenex, lipstick and keys. You can combine credit cards with your cell/ipod, depending on the size of your cell/ipod. You can display our bag by hanging it from a display stand or in a shadow box.  The Java bag is perfect as a gift or to keep as your own treasure.

The kit includes beads and thread for the bag, as well as the metal frame and chain.  Your finished Java Bag will be an heirloom, great as a gift or to keep for yourself, to be handed down for generations.  The kit includes beads and thread for the bag, as well as the metal frame and chain.

To make your Java Bag you need to know how to chain stitch, single crochet, slip stitch and increase sc stitches.

The Java Bag Kit can be ordered in any of the 100 Beadwrangler Seed Bead Mix colors or in any of the 340 seed bead colors.

The kit includes 100 grams of seed beads, a spool of Jean Stitch thread, twisted wire needles for stringing beads onto your crochet thread, a metal frame and metal chain.  The 24 page instruction booklet is fully illustrated with bead crochet tips and techniques, the Java Bag instructions, illustrated swag stitch instructions and instructions for attaching the Java Bag to the frame.

The instruction booklet also includes complete instructions for a Java Bag that is squared off on the bottom, as well as bead embellishment ideas.

If you do not already crochet with beads, you will need to order a steel crochet hook.  Size 9/1.40mm for medium crochet, size 7/1.65mm if you crochet tight or size 11/1.10mm if you crochet loose.

Jakarta Bag
A bead crochet framed bag in the
Pacific Rim Collection

The Jakarta Bag is my version of the Swag Stitch bags that were popular in the mid- 1800's and early 1900's.  Cataloging antique purses for museums inspired me to create this design. Before metal frames were available, these bag shapes were made with a drawstring as a closure.

The Jakarta Bag is 2 ½" x 5 ½" and has inside dimensions of 2" across by 5" deep.  .  The Jakarta Bag weighs less than the Java because the Jakarta alternates single bead stitches with bead loops, while the Java Bag is all bead loops. The Jakarta will hold cell phones and ipods that fit the bag dimensions.  The Jakarta can also be used to carry credit cards and a key instead of a cell/ipod.  Do not fill the bag with items that are heavier than your cell/ipod. The Jakarta is a more open, lightweight bag; for that reason it would not do to carry items that are too heavy or completely fill the bag. Hold your Jakarta Bag up to the light and you will see little spaces between the bead loops as the light shows through. The Jakarta bag is a soft, supple, sensuous bag to touch and hold. You can display your Jakarta by the handle on a stand or in a shadow box. The Jakarta will be with you through the years, made by you, to hand down to your children or to give as a gift to a very special person. The kit includes beads and thread for the bag as well as the metal frame and chain.

To make your Jakarta Bag you need to know how to chain stitch, single crochet, slip stitch and increase sc stitches.

The Jakarta Bag Kit can be ordered in any of the 100 Beadwrangler Seed Bead Mix colors or in any of the 340 seed bead colors.

The kit includes 75 grams of seed beads, a spool of Jean Stitch thread, twisted wire needles for stringing beads onto your crochet thread, a metal frame and metal chain.  The 24 page instruction booklet is fully illustrated with bead crochet tips and techniques, the Jakarta Bag instructions, illustrated swag stitch instructions and instructions for attaching the Jakarta Bag to the frame.

The instruction booklet also includes complete instructions for a Jakarta Bag that is squared off on the bottom as well as bead embellishment ideas.

If you do not already crochet with beads, you will need to order a steel crochet hook.  Size 9/1.40mm for medium crochet, size 7/1.65mm if you crochet tight or size 11/1.10mm if you crochet loose.

Sumatra Bag
A bead crochet framed bag in the
Pacific Rim Collection

The Sumatra Bag is my version of the Swag Stitch used to make bags during the mid 1800s through the early 1900's; however, there was resurgence of the bag shape and stitch in the 1940s-1950s and again in the early 1970’s.   I designed this bag to relate to those time periods.  Cataloging antique purses for museums inspired me to create this design.

The Sumatra Bag is 2 ½" x 4 ½" and has inside dimensions of 2" across by 4" deep. It will hold a cell phone or ipod that fits the bag dimensions.  You can also use the bag to carry a few credit cards, lipstick and a key. The Sumatra and the Singapore bags reflect the same shape.  However, the Sumatra is about a third smaller than the Singapore allowing you to store it in a smaller purse if you choose.  This size bag would make a dynamite gift for young girls along with us grown up gals. The Sumatra bag will fit in the palm of your hand as you pull out your cell/ipod and find admirers of your bag or place in the palm of someone very special as a gift.  Make a Singapore for you and a matching Sumatra for your daughter or granddaughter. The kit includes beads and thread for the bag as well as the metal frame and chain.

To make your Sumatra Bag you need to know how to chain stitch, single crochet, slip stitch and increase sc stitches.

The Sumatra Bag Kit can be ordered in any of the 100 Beadwrangler Seed Bead Mix colors or in any of the 340 seed bead colors.

The kit includes 75 grams of seed beads, a spool of Jean Stitch thread, twisted wire needles for stringing beads onto your crochet thread, a metal frame and metal chain.  The 24 page instruction booklet is fully illustrated with bead crochet tips and techniques, the Sumatra Bag instructions, illustrated swag stitch instructions and instructions for attaching the Sumatra Bag to the frame.

The instruction booklet also includes complete instructions for a Sumatra Bag that is squared off on the bottom, as well as bead embellishment ideas.

If you do not already crochet with beads, you will need to order a steel crochet hook.  Size 9/1.40mm for medium crochet, size 7/1.65mm if you crochet tight or size 11/1.10mm if you crochet loose.

Singapore Bag
A bead crochet framed bag in the
Pacific Rim Collection

The Singapore Bag is my version of the Swag Stitch that was used to make bags during the mid 1800s through the early 1900's.  However, there was a resurgence of this bag shape and stitch in the 1940s-1950s and again in the early 1970’s and I designed this bag to relate to those time periods.  Cataloging antique purses for museums inspired me to create this design.

The Singapore Bag is 3" x 5½" and has inside dimensions of 2½" across by 5" deep.  It will hold a cell phone or ipod that fits the bag dimensions.  The Singapore Bag is a good size bag for evening or day wear.  You can keep credit cards in your bag along with your cell/ipod.  For evening, you can use the Singapore to carry keys, credit cards, lipstick and other small items or your cell/ipod, credit card and a few other items. I have room in the bag for my cell phone, credit cards and tiny medicine container.  Most of the time I only use the bag to carry my cell phone inside my larger purse. The Singapore makes a lovely display when not being used; just lay it out on a table or your dresser.  Once you see how easy it is to make, you can’t make just one. The kit includes beads and thread for the bag and a liner as well as the metal frame and chain.  We all need a Singapore Bag for those special occasions.

To make your Singapore Bag you need to know how to chain stitch, single crochet, slip stitch and increase sc stitches.

The Singapore Bag Kit can be ordered in any of the 100 Beadwrangler Seed Bead Mix colors or in any of the 340 seed bead colors.

The kit includes 100 grams of seed beads, a spool of Jean Stitch thread, twisted wire needles for stringing beads onto your crochet thread, a metal frame and metal chain.  The 24 page instruction booklet is fully illustrated with bead crochet tips and techniques, the Singapore Bag instructions, illustrated swag stitch instructions and instructions for attaching the Singapore Bag to the frame.

The instruction booklet also includes complete instructions for a Singapore Bag that is squared off on the bottom as well as bead embellishment ideas.

If you do not already crochet with beads, you will need to order a steel crochet hook.  Size 9/1.40mm for medium crochet, size 7/1.65mm if you crochet tight or size 11/1.10mm if you crochet loose.
